My friend James and I hopped in Gilgamesh and headed north to Elnora, AB, where they are having their annual car show. It’s a small town and it was a small car show, nowhere near as big as the one happening in Drumheller on the same day (poor planning there). In any event, smaller car shows are more laid back, and, thus, more fun. Lots of pixels were captured. Even better, James is always good company, making it a fun day for me.

I had one funny moment. Another serious photographer was there, and, of course, he checked out my kit. I had taken two cameras with me. I was holding my Canon EOS 50D when the other photographer inspected my camera and kindly informed me I should think of upgrading to a newer Canon like his R6, which he showed me. I nodded and smiled and said I was still getting good images from my D50, but thank you. He left with a condescending look.
After I had enough standard shots, I switched to my Canon EOS R5 with my modded Helios lens as I wanted to see what I could do with distorted specular highlights. The young man did a double take when he saw me with my R5. He could have sworn I had an older camera. I told him I did, but I switched to my newer body because it has focus peaking for the manual lens I was using. The poor lad visibly deflated in front of me when he realized the old codger he had lectured about buying some new gear was now holding a late-model camera that was one step up from his. It amused me.
I came home with over 60 images in the bag and, even better, had much more luck with the Helios this time than I did at the car show in Strathmore. I have had more time to get a feel for it and I was extremely pleased with the resulting images. It was a great day.

Kit used today: Canon EOS 50D with a Canon 70-300 EF IS USM f4-5.6 lens and a Canon EOS R5 with the Helios 44m-2 58mm f2.0 lens that has the reversed front lens element.
