A Bad Day With A Camera

All Fired Up

Yesterday was the day I was going to Do Things with trailer repair. Namely, I was going to cut an access port into the door housing the battery power bank and expansion battery for cables to enter and exit and I was going to work on that friggin’ white water gravity feed inlet hose that leaks when you fill the tank as I’ve had the replacement for over a week.

First things first… I marked out where I want the hole for the new access port and started drilling. What I thought was a fake metal backing on the particle wood door turned out to be thin, but real metal. The jigsaw I was loaned has a wood blade. Well, shit. I texted a friend who is handier than I am and was informed the saw will work with bi-metal blades. They’re on order and round two with the port is tonight.

I also discovered last night that, being fifty-six, I no longer have the contortionist ability to reach deep and high inside a narrow cupboard to undo the top end of the gravity inlet hose. There’s also the issue of not being able to see what I am doing up there. At all. That means undoing the caulking on the outside of the inlet receiver and pulling it out to undo the clamp on that end of the hose. It’s now a today problem. I researched how to remove the part and tubes of caulking will arrive today as well since I need to redo that when I reinstall it.

Finally, I went to change out gas hoses and got a whiff of propane. Everything was closed down and the remaining gas in the system safely vented, but I did not like this one bit. I was injured in a natural gas explosion when I was younger and would prefer not to repeat the experience. I reached out to the same friend again as he is an actual gas fitter who works for a local utility company. He told me hands-off, he will come check it for me this weekend. He would also prefer that I not blow my own ass up and he knows me well enough to realize this is a solid possibility.

On the bright side of things, yesterday was hot, but the wind was down to a dull roar for a change and the sky had some character. I got the drone ready just in case and my wife gave me a heads-up that the sunset was blossoming after the sun had dropped below the horizon. I had the drone in the air within a minute and was soon getting good shots off of the pond across from my home. I think that is the first time this year the water has been that still.

A frustrating day, but the problems are not insurmountable and I did get some pixels in my bucket before it ended. Even better, I learned just how supportive a new friend is of me, and I appreciate having some of that back in my life. That’s something to be grateful for.
