For most of my life I have been fairly content to sit inside and look out a window. I do like to go for a walk outside, swing a camera around for some photos, and then head back inside to a comfy chair for some editing and to enjoy my creature comforts. Especially during the colder parts of the year as I generally hate winter with a passion.
I spent today inside looking out at the snowfall and going crazy because there was nothing I wanted more than to find a lake where it was snowing and get my paddle board on the water during said snowfall. A bugaboo with my driver’s license renewal arsed that up for me (the doctor forgot to tick a box for my pacemaker even though I passed the medical and the asshats at Alberta Registries won’t let me renew without it).
I digress. Wanting to be on a freezing cold lake in cold weather is out of character for me. Wanting to be out walking on ice in the cold is out of character for me, but it’s what I want to do this year. Badly. I did get out and walk today and feel the crunch of the ice under my feet. It was strangely refreshing. So was shoveling the sidewalk, which was … weird. I was pumped after shoveling and organized all of my winter gear so I can find what I need more easily and have the right clothing for the right conditions.
I’m getting my driver’s license sorted out tomorrow and then I begin plotting how to get my paddle board onto a cold lake before they freeze closed. I’m accepting that my sensibilities have somehow turned inside out this year (I’m blaming Ray for this) and will just have to find more ways to get from inside to outside this winter.
