My friend Ray began a new tradition for himself when he started #livingwithcancer. He posts several photos a week with the caption, “Thank you for this day.” I approve of this tradition.
In Alcoholics Anonymous, program members try to maintain an “attitude of gratitude”, a reminder to practice gratitude in all their actions. I was trying to remember where it was mentioned prominently and I finally nailed it down:
“An honest regret for harms done, a genuine gratitude for blessings received, and a willingness to try for better things tomorrow will be the permanent assets we shall seek.” ~ 12 Steps and 12 Traditions, page 95.
Which is true. In a sane world, this would be everyone’s default setting. Sadly, this is not always the case. So, with that in mind…
