A Bad Day With A Camera

Stopped Before I Started

Six thousand steps was my goal for my lunch hour walk. I think I got maybe sixty, but it’s not my fault. I put on a good jacket for wind, some headphones, grabbed my MP3 player, and out the front door I went. I was about three quarters down the front path when I screeched to a halt.

The Peking Cottoneaster bushes were kind of humdrum looking a couple of days ago, but the fall colours had suddenly popped on them and there was no way I was passing up a precious late season burst of splendor. Probably three quarters of the trees are bare at this point, so you take what you can when you can. I rushed inside for my beloved Helios lens.

I spent about five minutes in the front yard working the bushes, but they aren’t very big and there were only so many possible shots. After that I wandered around back to see what was possible there.

I’m not sure what was more depressing. The three leaves left on the Mayday tree or that our poor old, beat up Mountain Ash produced maybe ten whole new red berries this year. The tree is dying and I don’t expect half as much will come back next spring. Sad.

After these last few shots I packed up my camera and headed back out for a walk but wound up eating a face full of dust instead. A Chinook wind came up and it was the type that sandblasts your face. I looked at my watch and it had only registered about 60 steps because of all my stopping and starting. So much for grand plans, but having a few new pixels in the bucket does make up for a lot.

Today’s kit: Canon EOS R5 with a Helios 44m-2 58mm f2.0 and attached to the R5 via a Neewer M42 to RF adapter.
