Friday was a challenging day at my lakeside campsite. The wind howled from nearly morning to bedtime, with a short break around 2pm. Which was fine by me as I had arranged my lunch break for then to get my paddle board on the water. Then an emergency came up at work and I couldn’t take my break. By the time I was done the wind came up again and my window of opportunity was gone. I was pissed and I let the boss know it. I’ve had it with certain types of accounts and from now on if I have a lunch break, whatever problem they have is on hold. It’s not like we make money off them over the long run — more work than they are worth.

The winds morphed into some spectacular storms that rolled over us, us being myself and my daughter who showed up after work to join me with camping at Travers Damn Provincial Park. I never did make it on the water that day, but I did get my best rainbow shot in over a decade, so there’s that. It happened so quickly I didn’t even have time to dig out a good camera. Not that I could have, anyway. My daughter piled all her stuff on the dinette seat it was stored under, so good luck unearthing it quickly. Samsung to the rescue, as usual.
Judy Garland had it right about blue skies when she sang about rainbows in Wizard of Oz, but she was off by a mile about dreams coming true. It has been a shite summer for paddle boarding. I spend more time parked next to lakes looking at them this year than paddling on them. The wind has been incessant and just vile. The very moment I can move from this province, I will. Somewhere beyond the rainbow.
And especially the wind.
