We have had Aristaeus for just over a year now. He has integrated nicely into our home, but not without some hiccups. He’s young and playful and, well, kind of dumb. He doesn’t always remember what he has gotten heck for before and does it again the next day.
He very much likes to perch somewhere with a view. This tends to be in places where we would rather he not perch at all and is the source of some conflict. He gravitates towards the headboard of my daughter’s bed where he can keep a watchful eye on the front street through her window. This is also one of Lady Hestia’s favourite spots, so we hear the occasional argument while the two sort out the pecking order. Ari is the smaller cat and almost always loses.
My only complaint from this past year is that he has become less “my cat” and more my daughter’s cat. She is a better cat whisperer than I. She moved home after her convocation as there is something of a housing shortage in our country these days. This means I am now competing with her for my cat’s attention.
I have found that if I pick him up and put him in the window he’ll stay put for a bit while I give him some attention, which is all right. I get cuddles and he’s also making the neighbourhood safer by keeping an eye out. Win win, right?
