A Bad Day With A Camera

Seeing Red

My Soviet made Helios 44m-2 58mm f2.0 lens with the modded, reversed front element brought me much joy earlier in the year. That was before the blossoms I favour with it shriveled up and disappeared, along with a part of my soul. I mournfully packed the lens away to wait for the following spring in 2025.

However, yesterday, I saw a flash of red between two conifers at the side of Thomas Drive and discovered a small red shrub plump with fall berries. I wasn’t sure how I missed it up until now, but I had plans for it now that I had found it. Ten minutes of rummaging later and my trusty Helios was back in hand for an unexpected encore.

I am certain that there must be few more bushes like this around town, so I’ll be taking my eScooter out tomorrow for a run up and down the pathways looking for more pops of red. It would be a shame to pass up this wonderful opportunity so late in the year.

Seeing red isn’t always a bad thing!

Today’s kit was my Canon EOS R5 with the now infamous Helios 44m-2 58mm f2.0 lens that has the reversed front lens element for that whirly, swirly bokeh effect. The closer up shots also had a 12mm extension tube added.
