We have reached the time of year where the scenery isn’t so exciting for my daily walks. The canals are close to being dry and the trees are mostly bare. From here on it it just gets colder and more unpleasant.

Maintaining fitness is the point of the outings. Movement promotes bowel motility. Bowel motility means that my gut is less prone to flare-ups of my diverticular disease. I am also trying to be less fat, or, at the very least, not go back to being more fat again. So out the door I go in my fall clothing with a bit of tech to help out.
The watch is a $20 cheapie from Temu that is good for tracking steps, heart rate, and taking blood pressure accurately. The MP3 player above right is a $25 unit from Amazon that is not what you’d call full featured, but has good sound quality and holds some podcasts. I am trying to be more positive these days and I have taken to listening to podcasts on developing a healthier outlook. Putting them on the MP3 player saves my phone battery in case I need it later.
I find that the fitness tracking and the podcasts help out with my motivation to go for a walk when it has stopped being pretty outside. I do still appreciate the fresh air (when it’s not blowing in from a feedlot), but I miss the green foliage, the blackbirds, and the reflections off the water. Distractions are welcome, which inexpensive tech toys can be useful for.
