Posting has been harder than hard this past week and I can point to why. Tomorrow makes it half a year since losing my photo bestie, Ray. Einsteen wasn’t kidding when he said time is relative. It feels like I only talked to Ray about a few things only last week while I am also acutely aware of how long I have been without him in my life.
I am still trying to find ways to do something a bit different with photography despite not having the excellent photographic adventures I originally expected to have this year. Life happened. I have also been prioritizing being physically active this summer as the fact is I am trying to get on top of my health. That doesn’t mean I can’t sneak some fine-art in here and there.
This evening I got higher than a kite. The “recommended” flight ceiling for a microdrone is about 120m. A child’s kite averages about 150m in elevation. Kind of insulting when you realize a five-year-old is more trusted than an adult when it comes to not taking out low-flying aircraft. While you “should not” fly your drone above 120m, it is not technically illegal.
I can work with that.
This is what the alpenglow over Strathmore looks like at an elevation of 350m. Higher than a kite, indeed.
This evening’s image made with a DJI Mini 3 photography drone and in a manner that is irksome to Transport Canada.
