Yesterday was another scorcher with the temperature climbing above 30C. I think we hit 32C. That meant that the fam fam had no interest in heading to Chestermere Lake with me in the evening. It turned out not to be so bad. It was 28C when I got my board on the water just after 8 pm and I think it had dropped to 25C when I came in around 9:30 pm.
It’s really nice to watch the sun go down from out on the water. The breeze died off after sunset and most of the other traffic on the water disappeared. Nice and quiet and private.
It was windy when I started, so I went with the wind and paddled south to the jutty with the hammocks and the stones for sitting on in the water.
I went down and came back up the channel that goes to the weir and then swung around to the small swimming area/beach on the SE corner of the lake.
It was almost deserted as it was after 9 pm and there were only a few teens to be seen. From there I worked my way up the residental homes that back onto the lake and scooted under the bridge to check out the south side of the lake, which is larger.
I tried to paddle over to the larger swimming beach and discovered something unpleasant. There was a very large patch of weeds between myself and the beach. I tried going through, but wound up covered in vegetation despite being careful. A strategic retreat was called for.
I got a shot I liked of the waterfront on the way back to the dock to head home. The image is muted and quiet, just the way the scene felt to me. This area bustles with people throughout most of the day.
One last new thing is that I am wearing different gloves and shoes from my last photo. My other shoes and gloves were developing a swamp like smell and needed washing. I’ve got a second set of each now so that I have one pair to wear while the other is in the wash. I’m not wanting to pick up any infections from dirty clothing.
I don’t think I made any fine-art images this evening, but I got out of the house with a camera, I got some exercise, and even a slice of serenity on the water. It was a good day.
Today’s images made with a waterproof OM System (Olympus, damn it!) Tough TG-7.
