A Bad Day With A Camera

So where’s my worm?

The early bird gets the worm, as the saying goes. I suppose that’s great if you’re a bird or you like worms. I’ve never been much of a morning person – calling me a late riser is un understatement. That’s why the sunrise/sunset album I maintain on Flickr is about 98% sunsets after nearly a decade and a half of posting images to that account.

The truth is that it feels like I’m running late for most everything these days, not just sunrises. Yesterday was my 57th birthday and, as a treat to myself, I decided I would actually take a lunch break from work and photograph a bush I spotted the day before.

It didn’t happen. I had forgotten that my wife’s van was overdue for an oil change and I was not able to do it this past weekend because the wind was so bad half of the oil would have wound up on the ground. It was the kind of wind that can even reach under a vehicle and splatter around oil while it’s draining. I did the oil change instead. Fun fun.

I didn’t really get a lunch break yesterday, either. It was more a case of running out, popping out a drain plug, popping it back in, and swapping filters between jobs that got dropped on me. A hectic day. That always happens when it’s your birthday and you want the day off and you can’t get it because we’re in the middle of big sales and the boss promises to make it up to you next year. This is the eighth next year, I think.

Fuck it. Today I’m taking an extended lunch break and the phone can sit on my desk and ring. I’ve run out of fucks. I also need to get to that bush before it runs out of leaves. Adopting a wabi sabi outlook is all well and good, but life needs to get out of the way of my doing photography.

This morning’s image made with a wind tossed DJI Mini 3 drone. So many wind warnings from the software while it was up.
