Before there was Aristaeus there was Lady Hestia. A month or so before I made the decision to adopt my new kitty, my daughter, Ashlyn, made her own decision. She was struggling with the last year in university and needed some support to level her out. Lady is that support.
Lady Hestia – or Lady for short – came from the Happy Cat Sanctuary Society of Alberta, the same place I adopted Aristaeus from shortly after. She is a mostly white, but patchwork older lady. She’s also a big girl and it’s not fat. She’s just a large cat. In keeping with family tradition, her name came from the Greek Pantheon.
Lady’s nicknames are Ladybug, Bug, and Grumblelina as she does grumble a lot. She has Opinions. The most common opinion is this is wrong and you must fix it now. Lady was nine when my kid adopted her and should be ten years old now. She’s an older kitty, but she can still move like a younger cat when she needs to.
She wanted nothing to do with me when she was first adopted. I would try to lure her over for a pet that first weekend and the cat would just look at me and huff. Huffing is her way of showing disdain. Then she wandered off and found my kid. They bonded instantly. Lady still loves Ashlyn more than anything.
I am pleased to announce that Lady has decided that I am okay and will occasionally deign to sleep on me now. It’s kind of a big deal to get trust from a cat like Lady because she is not a cat that trusts easily. Having her spend so much time on me on Boxing Day was nice.
She huffed at me when I had to put her down so I could make a trip to the washroom. That part hasn’t changed.
