A Bad Day With A Camera

Christmas Candles

The vintage red plastic Christmas candles with the yellow flame on top seen below were pretty common when I was a kid, but we’re talking nearly half a century back. It’s pretty rare to spot them these days. In fact, the pair belonging to this home are the only ones I have seen in years.

I am very surprised that they haven’t been stolen. Theft of decorations is a problem here in Strathmore. The town used to do up Kinsmen Park nicely each December, but that was until a bunch of asshats stole a bunch of the lights and clipped the cords on the ones they couldn’t take, I guess.

This year there were practically no lights in Kinsmen Park with the remaining lights slapped on a single tree across the road in Lambert Park. It’s a higher traffic spot with good lighting so theft and vandalism are easier to spot. I didn’t bother getting a picture of it because of how annoyed I am by the whole situation. I hope no one steals the candles from this homeowner, but I won’t be surprised if they disappear at some point in the future. Vintage holiday decorations are in especially high demand on sites like eBay and fetch good prices.

Merry Christmas, eh?
