The temperature hasn’t hit -30C yet, but that is only weeks away at this point and it is sodding miserable to try and do serious photography outside in that crap. I am working on a viable plan B ahead of time using my large flatscreen television as a digital backdrop for still life photography.
The TV does seem to work well as a digital backdrop, giving me some flexibility with photographing flowers, vintage cameras, and other objects in front of it. I’ll do a bit more practicing, but I think this will keep me busy on those days where I just can’t get something in the uber cold weather.
I have “cast” an image from my phone onto the television in the above photos. This is my upstairs tele. I can also use the large flatscreen in my basement that is directly connected to a computer as well. I didn’t use that one for testing yesterday because my daughter was downstairs watching anime on it. I may have to do battle with her for it later on.
I also had a bit of fun. That’s the title card for the BBC television show Torchwood. Captain Jack for the win. I was playing with my Helios lens to see if I can use it to create abstract images from the flat screen and the answer is yes, I can. I’m trying to go into this winter more prepared than I was last year.
Camera used was a Canon EOS R5 with a Canon 17-40mm EF L USM f4-5.6 lens and also a vintage Helios 44m-2 58mm f2.0 with the reversed front element.
