My grandmother had a lot of sayings. One of them gave birth to this site. Another saying she was fond of was, “it was the cough that carried him off but it was a coffin they carried him off in.” I have to tell you, that doesn’t feel far from the truth today.

The smoke does not exactly look horrible but at an Air Quality Health Index (AQHI) of nearly 7 out of 10 it’s approaching High Risk territory. It’s murder on the eyes and throat, that’s for sure. Coupled with a high wind, the smoke spent the day finding its way into our home. I’m trying to be mindful of the devastation in Jasper, Alberta, today and not complain too much, but I was trapped inside by the smoke and the day sucked.
My eyes burn and my throat hurts. My lungs feel gross. I’ve managed to hold off coughing so far because we all know where that leads. Gran told us where it leads. That, and who can afford a coffin in this crappy economy?
Pass the throat lozenges, please.
