More of a blue screen monday, actually. The morning for sure. My employer was one of those who was hit by the global I.T. outage caused by the company Crowdstrike releasing a badly written driver onto millions of systems worldwide that caused them to crash and show the blue screen of death on startup. I read that letting my system cycle up to twenty times may fix the problem. Nope. Fortunately, an I.T. person for my company lives in the same town as I do as a remote employee and he got me what I needed to get up and running again by lunchtime.

I kicked back in my easy chair upstairs in our living room and plugged in my auxiliary monitor to provide the dual screen environment I need for work and got to it. Unfortunately this disrupted my wife’s summer routine, but my back was especially achy and I didn’t feel like I could take my work chair. I made a point of punching out at five o’clock and looked out the window.
Smoke smoke and more smoke. It was blisteringly hot as well, dashing my plans to head back to the river with the paddle board. I wasn’t going anywhere and I wasn’t staying out for long if I tried because my lungs can’t take too much of that particulate crap. That meant more photography in my yard.
I have been keeping a visual record of the progress of the trees in my backyard this summer. They are still doing okay so far, but this likely won’t continue as the drought and heat wave proceeds apace. Yes, we could water them, but we are now having to run our air conditioning nearly 24/7 to survive the heat and that bill is gonna suck donkey balls when it finally rolls in. I don’t think we can afford a huge water bill on top of that.
Sorry, trees.
