I suppose I should start off this entry by acknowledging a tragedy that happened at Kinsmen Lake here in town this past week. Some poor fellow drowned in it last Thursday evening and the authorities were not able to retrieve his body until the following day. No name has been released yet.
There was a lot of ghoulish interest surrounding this late last week with tonnes of looky-loos clogging the park on the evening of the fire department search with their phones out hoping to snag some good video. Disgusting.
The only reminder left of last week’s frantic activities is a lone bouquet of flowers planted along the southeast shore of the lake, honouring the deceased.
It is one of my favourite places in Strathmore and I always enjoy walking downtown, rounding the lake, and heading back home on a lunch break when it is a nice day, which it certainly was.
Today’s camera of choice was my Bonzart Ziegel, which I have not had out for a couple of weeks. It just felt like a good time to pull it out again. It was funny how baffling some of the local teens found it…
“Excuse me, sir.”
“Yes?”
“Is that a … camera?”
“Yes. It is called the Bonzart Ziegel. It’s a digital toy camera.”
“It looks strange. Like you stepped on it.”
“It’s Japanese.”
“I thought the Japanese made stuff that is elegant.”
“Hey. Be nice.”
It was a pleasant walk around the lake this afternoon. There were no bugs, there was a slight breeze, the light overcast kept the heat down, and the smell of spring was in the air. Last week week was not a great week for Kinsmen Lake, but it is nice to see everything getting back to normal.
The Bonzart Ziegel rides again.
