I took my 2:00 pm lunch break at 2:45 pm because every time I was about to leave my desk something else time sensitive came in. I was itching to get outside with a camera so badly I went with the basics: My Canon EOS R5 body and the vintage reclaimed Kodak pancake lens that fits on it. Point and shoot. No aperture to set. No focusing. Just go.
I looped down the back alley and then found my way up Thomas Drive towards my home, looking for new growth wherever I could find it. Some old growth, too. I am happy to see they are flushing the water mains in my area because the water tastes like a chemical spill. Fingers crossed it becomes potable again. No great art today, just some fresh air while holding a camera.
The Kodak 30mm f10 free focus lens for RF mount is basically a body cap for a Canon EOS R-series camera that has a lens salvaged from a used Kodak disposable film camera embedded in it. Pretty safe to say this is not high-tech or high quality. There is severe vignetting and the image quality goes to poop at the edges of the frame. Colour rendition is also slightly off. It’s a wonderful, quirky little lens and fun to play with.
One thing to be aware of is that this lens works best on a full-frame sensor body. An APS-C R-Series camera will lose the character from this lens because of the cropping factor. Other than that, Bob’s yer uncle.
Remember in school when the teacher would tell you to pay attention in class because there would be a quiz at the end? Well, this is that moment. What camera and lens were used in this diary entry? Hm? Hmmmm?
