Memory card failure is one of the bigger piss-offs for a photographer. The xD card that came with the Olympus FE-120 digicam seems to be developing some character. I spent an hour on an enjoyable walkabout at Dinosaur Hill, a hill in a park frequented by local kids with toboggans, and I got some great shots. When I got home the xD card from my camera showed as blank on my PC. Oh boy.
I spooled up some free recovery software I keep on hand and had a run at the card. I got twelve images back, just over half of which were usable. The shots I liked best were of course gone. Feckin’ hell.
I am certain I had some pussy willow shots I liked better than the two above, but they were what was left. I guess I am parking the Olympus until I get a replacement xD card for it. The current one is close to seventeen years old, after all.
I suppose I could steal the xD card out of the Olympus SP-510UZ and use it instead, but, it’s almost the same age so I’m just going to replace them both and be done with it. I did manage to save two images I really felt good about from today…
I had a nice walk on a nice day through a very pleasant park and I got to listen to children laughing and playing as they whizzed down what snow was left on the hill. It is melting fast in our unseasonably warm temperatures that have the pussy willows popping six weeks early. The outing was still a win even if the memory card was a loss.
Note: All images in this diary entry were created using an Olympus FE-120 vintage digicam. The many missing images in this post were also made with said camera and its aged memory card, goddamn it.
